Tile area is market capitalisation and colour is the market-cap weighted return of everything inside it, so a large pale tile is a big economy that moved little, and a small vivid one is a concentrated move. This is a description of what prices have already done — it is not a forecast, a ranking, or a recommendation to buy or sell anything.
Two limits worth knowing. Prices are ingested on a rotating schedule rather than all at once, so each company's return is measured from its own latest close and the anchor dates differ by a few days across tiles. And companies listed on exchanges the price source does not carry — chiefly the Gulf markets — appear under “Unclassified” rather than being dropped, so their countries are not silently understated.
